Choosing the Right Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology can include many more types of resources, and is extremely beneficial for students with disabilities such as, visual or hearing impairments, trouble with speaking, writing, reading, etc. It is used for a wide range of disabilities, and is unique to the specific case of every individual. A crucial part of Assistive Technology is making sure which type of AT is most appropriate for each person to receive the most educational and daily life benefits. Choosing the right AT is usually a choice made by a group/ team of educators and specialists that are trained in determining what type of Assistive Technology is best for the individual with his or her disability. This group can include professionals, such as doctors, general and special educators, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other specialists that are involved in the companies that create and provide the Assistive Technology.
